Pay Day Super – Are You Ready?

With the Payday super deadline approaching now is the time to make sure you are ready.

From 1 July 2026, you must pay your employees’ super contributions on the same day you pay their wages/salaries – “Payday”. Previously, superannuation payments were only required to be paid at the end of each quarter. This may have an impact on your cashflow, so we’ve put together a checklist to help make this transition as smooth as possible.

  • Do you understand the changes? Click on the ATO link below for more clarification or contact us for support

  • Do you understand Qualifying Earnings (QE)? This is the new term for the types of payments you make to employees that are used to calculate their super guarantee (SG) under Payday Super. QE replaces Ordinary Time Earnings (OTE). There are some changes around commission payments so it’s important you review this if your employees receive commission

  • Ensure your employee super details are up to date

  • Ensure your super clearing house is set up. Most businesses find it easiest to use the clearing house provided in their payroll software

  • Super contributions for the April to June quarter remain due on 28 July, however you can start paying those contributions now. This will help with your cashflow

  • Review your cashflow and budget. When cashflow is tight we often focus on net wage payments only. Your mindset will need to change – net wages and super is what you’ll need moving forward

  • Clean up your current super payable. If you have any old outstanding amounts lodge them now and remember to prepare and lodge any SGC statements

Remember, super contributions must be received by the super fund within 7 business days after payday. Penalties will be swift and harsh so it’s important your business remains compliant.
